SHILLONG: The Election Commission is hoping for a high voter turnout in the Lok Sabha polls but the fear of rain looms large over the northeastern states.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) says light rain and thundershower is likely to occur at isolated places in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura. As far as the Shillong weather is concerned, the IMD website says the city may experience partly cloudy sky with possibility of thunder and lightning.
Shillong will experience a minimum temperature of 12°C while the maximum will be 21°C.
Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Kharkongor said they are cautiously optimistic and unsure in the context of weather. He added that in spite of these factors, voters should step out and cast their vote.
