Mawkyrwat: The KSU Mawkyrwat circle will hold a rally-cum-meeting on drug abuse here on April 25.
General secretary of KSU Mawkyrwat Circle Rutherford Lyngdoh informed that the rally will start from the BDO office junction in Mawlangwir at 10 am and will end at Mawkyrwat market. It will be followed by a public meeting. “The union decided to hold the rally after seeing the increase in number of drug users in Mawkyrwat,” Lyngdoh said.
It called upon the village leaders, NGOs, school and college students, youth as well as men and women from the area to come together to fight against drugs.
The union also wants to create awareness on how this menace has destroyed youths and their families.
“We want to send a strong message to the suppliers and smugglers that stern action will be taken against them,” Lyngdoh said.
The KSU also expressed concern over the irresponsibility of the district administration in tackling the issue especially during the recent incident at Nonglang village, where it took them more than four hours to reach the spot even after being given the right information.
“We want to see the seriousness of the government in this issue because it has not done anything or arrested any drug smuggler in our area,” the leader said adding that only the KSU and the Seng Samla Shnong have taken up the issue.
