SHILLONG: The overall voters turnout in Meghalaya for the two parliamentary seats of Shillong and Tura have been recorded at 67.03 percent but the percentage would increase as the election department is yet receive turnout details from as many as 644 polling stations due to its remoteness.
It may be mentioned that there are as many as 3167 polling stations across the state.
Speaking to media persons, Chief Electoral Officer, FR Kharkongor said that 1281164 voters have exercised their right to franchise out of 19.14 lakh voters which is more than the figures of 1077948 voters exercising their franchise in 2014 Lok Sabha polls
Stating that the elections were largely peaceful, he added that in Shillong seat, the overall voters turnout was 63.56 percent and 75.60 percent in Tura seat approximately.
According to Kharkongor, the overall voters turnout in 2019 Lok Sabha elections was better than that in 2014 general elections where the overall turnout was 68 percent,
He also added that there were very few technical snags in the EVMs and VVPATS, adding the error percentage in Ballot unit and Control Unit was .51 percent each respectively while the error percentage in VVPATs were 1.76 percent
Expressing his happiness at the large turnout of PwD voters in the state, he, however, informed that there were no takers for the queue management App which was developed to allow voters to see the number of people standing in queue in a polling stations.
