SHILLONG: The Election Commission has directed that the cost of misusing the official vehicle by Cabinet Minister and BJP leader AL Hek will have to be recovered from him.
Hek had campaigned for party candidate Sanbor Shullai in West Jaintia Hills by using his official vehicle.
Chief Electoral Officer Frederick Kharkongor said the Election Commission had directed that the Minister concerned may be cautioned for the unauthorised use of vehicle during campaigning violating the model code of conduct and ‘the cost of misusing the vehicle may be recovered from him’.
The returning officer will have to determine the amount in consultation with the Expenditure Cell.
The Election Commission recently found Hek guilty of violating the model code of conduct after he used his official vehicle while campaigning for the party candidate.
However, the response of Hek was that his presence near the car was for obtaining medicine.
