SHILLONG: The annual congregation of the Seng Khasi Seiñ Raij also known as the Lympung will be held in Mawngap from April 19 to 21 where erection of monoliths and other activities will be carried out.
The annual congregation is being organised by the Seng Khihlang with an aim to protect, preserve and propagate the values and culture of the Hynniewtrep community and to stimulate the spirit of patriotism in the Khasi community.
The Seng Khihlang has invited organisations of indigenous faiths from the whole of North East to attend the programme.
A myriad of well known personalities will also address the public during the three-day event.
The first ever Lympung was held in Nongkrem on April 17, 1988 in the Khasi state of Hima Khyrim with the co-operation of Seng Khasi units of Seng Khasi Smit and Seng Khasi Laitkor.
Further, the Seng Khihlang has urged the state and union government to assist in the establishment of a full time office for effective functioning.
The Seng Khihlang has also endeavored to find out ways and means of establishing self-help resources by setting up small scale cottage industrial units for the production of handicrafts and agricultural implements including traditional garments, costumes and handloom fabrics for visitors and tourists.
The organisation looks forward to the establishment of educational institutions as well including a school with hostel facilities and a college to cater to low income families.
