SHILLONG: Swachhta Pakhwada at NEIGRIHMS concluded on Monday where people were sensitised about the importance of cleanliness and hygiene.
The Pakhwada, which started on April 1 with an inaugural function in OPD foyer of NEIGRIHMS, ended with prize distribution.
The 15-day programme was inaugurated by the director who administrated the Swachhta Pledge to the participants and stressed that clean surroundings is every individual’s responsibility. A hundred saplings were planted on the same day in association with Mission Green Committee and the State Government Programme Implementation and Monitoring Committee.
On the second day of the event, beautification of lawns and weeding out of obsolete equipment and files were taken up by various departments of NEIGRIHMS.
Health education was imparted to patients and attendants by staff during the programme. Health talk on menstrual hygiene and disposal of sanitary napkins were organised at Lady Keane College, Loreto Convent and Seng Khasi Higher Secondary School.
On April 5, a Swachhta conference, Hygeia 2019, was held in the institute auditorium where sanitation staff of various institutions participated. Skit play and essay competitions were organised. A cleaning drive was also undertaken by the staff and students and the locals of Pynthorumkhrah.
The medical superintendent at NEIGRIHMS while thanking all the participants expressed his satisfaction over successfully conveying the message of importance of cleanliness to the society by means of conference, health talks, skit play, poster competition and others. The prizes and certificates were distributed to the winners on the occasion.
The first prize for the best skit performance was won by students of Social Work Department, Martin Luther Christian University. In hospital category the first prize was won by the Sanitation Department of NEIGRIHMS. In a poster display competition, 1st prize was won by Barbie Kalita of Lady Keane College and Robinstar Ryntathiang. In essay writing competition, 1st prize was won by Ophelia Mary Kharmujai and Melakerbha Rumsong.
