SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Executive Member in-charge of traditional medicine, Titoswell Chyne informed that the meeting of Khasi Traditional Medicine Commission was not held since September 7, 2017.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting on Tuesday, Chyne said the Commission was set up in 2012.
There was also a discussion on the Traditional Medicine Institute building at Lumsohpet Bneng and inspection of the site will be done on April 22. The institute will have an administrative block, library, classroom and therapy. The estimated cost is Rs 5, 77, 93,000.
He further said the KHADC will write to Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU) to get a fresh concept paper.
Chyne said KHADC aims to provide a platform to the practitioners to ensure that herbal plants are protected and conserved.
Dlass Ranee, a herbal practitioner since 1981 expressed concern that most of the herbs are endangered. The reason he cited is because of forest fire.
