Nongpoh: A minor hailing from Birsik, a village near Umtngam in Ri Bhoi district, was allegedly raped by two boys while she was on her way back home after attending church service on Sunday. The girl is said to be below thirteen-years-old. As per sources, it was informed that the incident happened around 5 pm when the two boys who are below 16 years of age, forcefully took her to a nearby jungle and took turns to rape her. It was also informed that the victim has physical impairment.
Following the incident, family of the victim immediately informed the police and the two underage culprits were arrested and sent to juvenile custody.
General secretary Hynniewtrep National Movement (HNM), Pynskhemlang Marngar said it strongly condemns the incident and urged the concerned authority to take up this matter and punish the culprits as per relevant section of the law. Marngar also urged the concerned department looking after the welfare of children to provide immediate help and counselling to the victim, as she is from a poor background.
