SHILLONG: The All Jaintia Youth Welfare Organization (AJYWO) said there are 1397 shopkeepers who possess trading licenses in Jaintia Hills.
In a statement issued here, he said the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) should close down the shops of non-tribals who do not possess trading licenses and allow tribals to operate in their place.
The organization said JHADC has not implemented the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District (Trading by Non-Tribals) Regulation (Act), 2011 in letter and spirit which encourages non-tribals to flock the state as doing business does not involve any stringent law.
It also criticised the Council for being weak for not taking stringent measures against illegal traders and demanded that it should take the matter seriously.
