SHILLONG: The Hill Farmers’ Union (HFU) has demanded from the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) CEM Teiñwell Dkhar to do away with the deduction system for agricultural produce at Ïewduh which, according to the union, is a bane for the farmers’ community.

The union has demanded that the deduction system should be removed from all the markets operating under the jurisdiction of the KHADC.

The union demanded that the KHADC should issue an order prohibiting any kind of deduction at Ïewduh and to direct the Syiem of Hima Mylliem to enforce the order.

The HFU demands that the farmers should be allowed to sell their produce at Ïew dielang till 2 pm as decided by the Syiem Dorbar of Hima Mylliem and to put up a clear sign board.

The union has demanded cancellation of the trading license of non-tribal traders if they continue with the system of deduction.

Dkhar has assured the union to address their grievances. Meanwhile, the union members also met the Deputy CEM Pyniaid Sing Syiem who informed the union members that the KHADC has constituted a committee to specifically look into farmers’ welfare.
