Killing of fish banned
Shillong: The Sub Division Magistrate, Sohra Civil Sub Division has promulgated an order under Section 144 CrPC prohibiting illegal/rampant killing of fishes/ aquatic life forms by using explosives/nets and poisons in all rivers/streams throughout Wahrew River under Sohra Civil Sub-Division, Sohra. Based on the written petition of the Sordar, Warbah-Sder and Rangbah Shnong, Pyrnai to stop/restrict any kind of illegal/rampant killing of fishes or any aquatic life at Wahrew river which may lead to total eradication of aquatic life and may cause health hazards to all who depend on the river for their livelihood (either humans or aquatic life) etc.The order comes into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further orders.

Mock drill exercise held
WILLIAMNAGAR:  The Guwahati based 1st Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) successfully conducted a joint mock drill exercise on “Earthquake Disaster” on Tuesday. It was organised in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) at Williamnagar Civil Hospital. The exercise witnessed a good participation from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, fire and emergency services, medical, civil defense and home guards, MPRO and other line departments besides school students. While debriefing the exercise, East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe stressed on the need to remain alert and be prepared to face any kind of disaster.

Natl de-worming day launched
TURA:  In a bid to ensure worm-free and healthy future for our children, the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills District Ram Singh launched the National De-Worming Day (NDD) at St. Xavier’s School Tura on Tuesday.
It will be implemented throughout the district on April 25 where all adolescents from 1 to 19 years of age will be given de-worming tablet through schools and Aganwadi Centres. It may be mentioned that the mop round will be held on April 30 for those children who missed the de-worming tablet on April 25. Speaking on the occasion as Chief Guest, Singh urged all parents and guardians to avail this opportunity and bring their children to their respective schools and aganwadi centres for de-worming and ensure worm-free future for the children.

Banking ombudsman scheme
Shillong: A town hall meeting on awareness about the Banking Ombudsman Scheme, 2006 was held in Shillong College on Monday. The meeting was organised by Reserve Bank of India, Guwahati in coordination with Indian Overseas Bank. In the keynote address the Banking Ombudsman, Ashish Ranjan Samal explained about customer grievance redressal mechanism in various banks. He also explained about the Banking Ombudsman Scheme of RBI in which any individual having grievance with any commercial bank can complain to RBI free of cost. Precautions to be taken while using ATM cards, internet banking and mobile banking was also highlighted. He advised the public to frequently change the PIN of cards and never reveal the credentials of the cards or online banking to anybody. During the meeting the queries of the participants were also addressed by the RBI officials.

Easter Egg and basket competition
Shillong: Breadcafe, Shillong organised the Easter Egg and Basket Competition in which there were more than 75 entries. The results were declared on Monday by judges Julien Marbaniang and Damen Kharkrang. The Egg painting competition winners under group 1 are Tanmay Kedia who took first place, second place went to Rasesh and Amelia Lyngdoh.Under Group 2, the winners are Hritvi in first place and Manan Surana and Driti Vaswani in second place. Under the Easter Basket Competition (Group 1) the winners are Kashvi Udhani (first place) while Rasesh took the second prize. Under Group 2, the winner for first prize is Ritika Deorah and the second prize went to Hritvi JhunJhunwala and  Naman Tharad. Special Breadcafe gift hampers and certificates were awarded to all.
