SHILLONG: Roads in the city have become an eyesore.
People are annoyed over the endless speed breakers to potholes in almost every part of the city. The adverse weather condition adds more woes to the residents.
The condition of roads in Mawbah is going from bad to worst as the area remains congested with pedestrians as well as vehicles especially in the evening.
Some residents said that the road in the locality is too narrow and pedestrians and vehicles ply on the same road.
They added that the condition of the road has deteriorated despite the fact that roads were constructed just before the 2018 Assembly elections.
Drainage work is also taking place in Mawbah and the construction has made the road smaller and congested.
As most of the graveyards are situated there, residents also said that the entire area gets clogged when people in large numbers come for funeral procession.
Talking about the roads in Mawprem, here too, the roads are too narrow and potholes have now started developing on the roads which were also constructed before the Assembly elections last year.
One has to undergo a bumpy ride through the road from Rynjah to Nongrah.
The road was black topped a few months back but now potholes have developed.
Some residents in Nongrah said that the main road is smooth while the lanes within the locality are developing cracks.
Sometimes, residents themselves had to fill up the potholes so that it will be convenient to walk and to let the cars pass by. Filthy drain water filling the road is another concern for the residents.
