National De-Worming day launched in Ri Bhoi District

NONGPOH: The office of the District Medical & Health Officer, Ri Bhoi District under the banner of National Health Mission on Thursday launched the National De-Worming Day 2019 at a function held at the King of Kings Higher Secondary School, Mawkyrdep.

The function here was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi District, Mrs Rosetta Mary Kurbah as the chief guest in presence of Dr M Mawrie, District Medical & Health Officer of Ri Bhoi District, Dr B Pohsngap, AYUSH Physician, Kyrdem PHC, Dr NM Sangma, District Tuberculosis Officer and Sr. H Dkhar, Principal of the school beside the aganwadi workers, school children and others.

Addressing the gathering, Rosetta Mary Kurbah said that it was very important for all children between the age of 1-19 years old to get vaccinated, as the sole aim of the mission is to keep the children safe, improved their health, nutrition level and learning abilities besides reducing absenteeism in school and enhancing their health in the later stage of life, adding that de-worming also helps improving the physical and mental growth of the children.

‘Therefore, school children are like the messengers of our society, it is the duty of each and every student who de-wormed to disseminate the message to their friends, their love ones and neighbours about the importance of de-worming day to free themselves from any disease Kurbah said.

Further, Kurbah also suggested that every child must get regular check-up to ensure that they are free from any chronic or communicable disease.  She also encouraged the children to read not only their text books but other extra books as well in order to gain more knowledge and new things and to also conduct group discussion, interacting with each other to improve their studies.
