District level athletics tourney concludes at Ampati

AMPATI: The two-day District-level Inter-School Athletic Meet 2019 organized by the District Sports Office at Ampati Mini Stadium concluded with a prize distribution on Thursday afternoon.

Around 800 boys and girls from 16 schools from across the district participated in various field events during the meet. South west Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ramkumar S attended the opening ceremony as the chief guest and spoke words of encouragement and motivation to the participants before declaring the Athletic Meet open.

The selected athletes will represent the district at the State-level meet to be held in Shillong sometime in the month of May, next. They will be given the required coaching for the same at Ampati shortly.

 The following are the winners in the three different categories: In Under 18 years (Boys) Mellim Higher Sec School and Boldamgre Secondary School were adjudged the winners and runners-up, respectively, while the Best Athlete was bagged by Jeckison Ch Sangma of Boldamgre Def. UP School. In Under 18 (Girls) the winners’ trophy and runners-up went tonEmmanuel English Schooln and Mothers’ Union Sec School, Ampati with Riksechimik G. Sangma of Bandalkona Sec School bagging the best athlete.

In Under 16 Boys, Rangsakona Higher Sec School and Nirupama Memorial Sec School Garobadha were declared the winners and runners- up, respectively, while Raksan Ch. Marak of Mothers’ Union Sec School, Ampati was adjudged the best athlete and in Under 16 Girls, Nirupama Memorial Sec School, Garobadha and Highway Academy were the winners and runners-up respectively, while the trophy for Best Athlete was bagged by Chisanchi  S. Sangma of Highway Academy

In Under 14 Boys, Murchapani RMSA School was the winner and Boldamgre Def UP School the runners- up, while Jelash Ch Marak of Boldamgre Def. Sec. School  got the best athlete; in Under 14 Girls, Birin-Nuchong Sec School Ampati and Soudakian English School were adjudged the winners and runners-up respectively, while Sildimme D. Sangma of Birin-Nuchong Sec School won the best athlete trophy.
