SHILLONG: The state cabinet on Monday approved the new directorate of dairy development.
Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, Home Minister James Sangma said the new directorate of dairy development was formed due to the launching of Meghalaya Milk Mission for over Rs 218 crore.
According to James, since Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department has limitation, the separate directorate will help to have more focus to implement the Milk Mission. The only financial implication is the additional post of a director for the directorate, he said.
Grant in aid to schools
The cabinet also decided to provide grant in aid to schools which run classes in the morning and evening hours.
The government is providing grant in aid to 15 such schools in East Khasi Hills, Garo Hills and other areas.
While the grant in aid for the higher secondary school is Rs 20,000, for classes 6, 7 and 8, Rs 40,000 is provided as grant in aid.
The cabinet also decided to appoint retired official K M Momin as the principal of Food and Craft Institute.

To a question, James said these cabinet decisions do not violate any model code of conduct.
