SHILLONG: In its bid to develop health tourism in Meghalaya, the State Government is now going to promote ayurveda in convergence with Khasi traditional healing system which would do wonders for the state in every sphere be it tourism or health sector.
Informing this here on Wednesday, Health and Family Welfare Minister, AL Hek said that with the concept of converging ayurveda and Khasi traditional healing system, the Mebai Tribal Health and Wellness centre would be inaugurated here in the city on Thursday.
In the centre, the concept of indigenous holistic therapy with Kerala massage will be converged and this would attract many others to take similar initiative in the state.
He said that the convergence of two system would be beneficial for the state as Meghalaya has large number of traditional healers who are expert in traditional healing system, adding that the Government intends to develop Meghalaya on the lines of Kerala which is famous not only for its beauty but for its traditional healing system as well.
Dr. Pradeep Jeothi, Chairman & Managing Director at Vasudeva Vilasam Group of Companies which is going to function here in the city said that traditional healers in Meghalaya had tremendous knowledge about the traditional medicine and herbs but they don’t know how to take it forward.
“We will integrate Ayurveda and traditional Khasi healing system together,” he said adding that they will develop medicines of various disease and take Khasi healing system to different level altogether.
Apart from it, they are also keen to have skill development programmes for the youths by coming up with institutes for their training.
In addition, they also want setup factories in Meghalaya for manufacturing of medicines since the state has lot of herbs and spices and people here till dare are manufacturing traditional medicines only in their homes.
