GUWAHATI: Assam minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that driven by the ideals of nationalism, about 25 per cent “silent voters” in Assam have favoured BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.

Exuding confidence in winning the elections, Sarma said that a section of people who have been apolitical and driven by nationalism, have “silently” voted for BJP.

“There are over 25 per cent of such people in the state, who share the same love for the country like our party. They have voted for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Even people who have no connection with politics have voted for BJP. It is this silent vote that will propel BJP to victory in the elections,” he told reporters here on Wednesday.

The three-phase parliamentary elections to 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state concluded on April 23.  The results will be declared on May 23.

“The credit for the outcome (to be known on May 23) will go to people who believe in nationalism and have voted for nationalism. In fact, this has been an election for people who have bestowed faith in the ideals of nationalism and nation building,” Sarma said.

The BJP leader further claimed that the party has garnered minority votes in the elections as well. “This shows that we have not isolated them. If voted to power, we will launch schemes for the benefit of minorities,” he said.
