SHILLONG: Thma U Rangli Juki member Angela Rangad on Tuesday said different workers’ unions are at different stages of struggle while the goal of equal pay for equal work remains unresolved.
She was speaking with regard to the workers convention which is to be held on Saturday,
Addressing the press, Rangad said setting up of unions and the unity of workers have become a force to reckon with to make the government and private sector comply with some of their demands. The Workers Power of Meghalaya, which is a federation of 18 unions and with about 4000 members, will organise the second annual workers convention-cum-citizens help desk at Bharat Scouts and Guides where resource persons from Delhi, Chattisgarh and Assam will be present.
Member of the Workers Power of Meghalaya, Kenneth Swer, said the help desk will create awareness on the rights of the workers as per the laws laid down by the government such as minimum wages, Employees’ State Insurance, Provident Fund, maternity leave for women employees among others.
