SHILLONG: The state government is now going to promote Ayurveda in convergence with Khasi traditional healing system which would do wonders for the state in every sphere, be it tourism or health sector.
In its bid to develop health tourism in Meghalaya, Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek on Wednesday said the Mebai Tribal Health and Wellness Centre, which will be inaugurated in the city on Thursday, will see the convergence of Ayurveda and Khasi traditional healing systems.
The centre will marry the concept of indigenous holistic therapy with Kerala massage which would attract others to take similar initiative in the state.
He said that the convergence of the two systems will be beneficial for the state as Meghalaya has a large number of traditional healers adding that the government intends to develop the state on the lines of Kerala which is famous not only for its beauty, but for its traditional healing system as well.
Pradeep Jeothi, Chairman and Managing Director of Vasudeva Vilasam Group of Companies, which is setting up shop in the city, said that traditional healers in Meghalaya have tremendous knowledge about the traditional medicine and herbs, but they do not know how to take it forward.
Jeothi has many years of professional experience in Ayurvedic health care, wellness, beauty care, running resorts, hospitals, wellness centres, training institutes and SPA consulting since 1984.
“We will integrate Ayurveda and traditional Khasi healing system,” he said while adding that they will develop medicines for various diseases and take the Khasi healing system to a different level altogether
Apart from it, they are also keen to have skill development programmes for the youths by setting up institutes for their training.
In addition, they also want to set up factories for manufacturing medicines since the state has a lot of herbs and spices and people here are manufacturing traditional medicines only in their homes.
