SHILLONG: The Joint Action Committee (JAC), Mawlai has requested the Commandant of Home Guard B. Kharkongor to appoint the daughter of home guard personnel (late) Dismarlin Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi on compassionate ground.
Lyngkhoi, the only breadwinner of the family, was assaulted and killed by truck drivers in Ri Bhoi district recently.
Based on the memorandum submitted on Friday, the commandant has assured the delegation that the family of the slain personnel will be assisted as he was the sole breadwinner of the family, a statement issued here informed.
It was also said that the family is facing financial constraints following the sudden death of Lyngkhoi.
On the other hand, the JAC in a meeting at Mawdatbaki Community Hall on Thursday decided to hold a black flag protest rally on May 9. The rally will start from Mawlai Nongkwar and culminate at Mawlai Mawroh. A a candle light vigil will be held on the same day. The JAC expressed hope that the culprits would be nabbed.
It may be mentioned that the Ri Bhoi police has issued a look out notice for the four truck drivers who were alleged to be behind the assault and subsequent death of Lyngkhoi on April 30.
The four truck drivers have been identified as Naba Baruah, Sona Ram Boro, Suresh Boro and Sadhan Jamatia of Assam-based Saikia Company.
