TURA: An RTI activist from Garo Hills has filed a case with the state Lokayukta alleging misappropriation of central funds to the tune of one crores rupees by the sitting MDC from Asanang constituency of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.
Activist Nilbath Ch Marak moved the Lokayukta in Shillong on Friday accusing MDC Ismail Marak of allegedly withdrawing council funds given by the centre to the tune of Rs one crore for developmental works in his constituency but failing to implement much of it.
The activist, in his petition to the Lokayukta, mentioned that RTI replies from the district council revealed that development projects from 2017-2018 worth a crore of rupees on the accused MDC’s constituency were either not taken up or left incomplete.
“The MDC did not follow the required norms during allocation of work taking advantage of the ‘closed tender’ method to hand over all the projects to two individuals who did not implement the works,” alleges Nilbath Marak.
According to the activist, 49 projects were given to two contractors by the MDC which included construction of ring wells, waiting sheds, community halls, road construction and cemeteries.
“In paper these projects show completion, but a field inspection to the project sites clearly show there was no work taken up at all by the contractors. The MDC is guilty because he broke the rules by getting the money released even though he was aware there was no work on the ground,” alleged Nilbath Marak.
