SHILLONG: The Opposition chief whips and Congress MLA, P T Sawkmie has sought the intervention of the President of India to solve the NEIGRIHMS issue.
The institute and the Head of Cardiology department, Animesh Mishra are at loggerheads over the supply of stents to the patients.
Sawkmie said though the Health Minister and Chief Minister had taken up the matter with Delhi, the Union Health Ministry had not responded.
“Since the health ministry is unable to solve the issue, the matter will have to be brought to the notice of the President of India”, he said.
While the NEIGRIHMS blamed Mishra for facilitating the supply of stents from outside the hospital at exorbitant rates, the institute said it interfered in the illegal practice and insisted the patients to get cardiology devices from AMRIT pharmacy which is providing affordable medicines.
According to Sawkmie, it appears that NEIGRIHMS is playing with the lives of the people of the state.
“It is a matter of concern that for one or two persons, the image of NEIGRIHMS is tarnished”, Sawkmie said.
The intervention of the President is important since the Centre has not addressed the issue, he added.
