SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Youth Council (HYC) has said that funds from the Central Government Special Assistance Scheme should be used for public services and not for the benefit of the MDCs in Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).
In a statement issued here, the general secretary of HYC, Roy Kupar Synrem, said there is a tussle over funds although the Executive Committee of the KHADC was formed only about two months ago. He said this was unacceptable and asserted the funds row shows the MDCs’ disregard for the aspirations of the people.
He urged the MDCs to focus on legislating laws and policies to protect and preserve the customary rights of the people, land and also to follow up on the Khasi Lineage Bill.
