SHILLONG: The state government has roped in a Korean company to convert the waste dumped at Marten, Mawlai Mawiong into energy.
Urban and Municipal Affairs Minister Hamlet Dohling said the government has approached Korean company, Chamhana GW India Pvt. Limited for the job.
“The state government officials and the Korean team have already visited Marten but we are yet to get their report”, Dohling said.
Once there is a consent from the company, an agreement will be signed for the pilot project to convert the waste into energy, he said.
According to Dohling, the dumping ground is in existence for more than 80 years.
The government had planned to acquire an alternative site at Tynring but there was objection from the villagers during a public hearing.
“However, some individuals have come forward to donate land and we will examine their offer”, he said.
