Kaziranga tiger dies after fight with another tiger

GUWAHATI: Forest personnel in famous Kaziranga National Park (KNP) in Assam, spotted carcass of a male Royal Bengal Tiger (RBT) on Wednesday morning, according to sources in the National Park.

The carcass was recovered in area under Baruntika Forest Camp in Kohora Range of the Park known as the abode on one-horned Indian rhinoceros.

The post-mortem conducted on the carcass indicated that the tiger died of fatal injuries sustained during a fight with another male tiger about two weeks ago inside the National Park which is also recognized as a Tiger Reserve under the jurisdiction of National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).

The age of the deceased tiger was stated to be about eight years. Later the carcass was put to flames in the presence of senior forest officials including the Director, Periyasami Sivakumar and the DFO, Rohini Ballav Saikia of the National Park, veterinary doctors, representatives of NGOs.
