29-member panel to deal with state curriculum framework

SHILLONG: A 29-member team will finalise the state curriculum framework.
The task force committee notified by the state government on May 1 in this regard will discuss the draft state curriculum framework.
Another term of reference is to identify and provide specific inputs for improvement which will lead to the finalisation of the curriculum. Besides, the committee will also strengthen compliance process.
The task force committee has members from IIM, Shillong, NEHU, education department, MBoSE, principals of schools and colleges, former UPSC chairman David Syiemlieh, former MLCU vice-chancellor R G Lyngdoh and other experts.
The chairperson of Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights is also a member.
Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said the committee will hold its first meeting soon.
Rymbui, who is the chairman of the committee, said the state wants to have its own curriculum and textbooks as in the past there were several complaints about errors in the textbooks.
He said chapters on human rights will be included in the new textbooks besides lessons on achievers which according to him will be an inspiration for the students.
