Lt. Gen. Rana Pratap Kalita assumes charge as CoS  Eastern Command

GUWAHATI: Lieutenant General, Rana Pratap Kalita  who hails from Assam, assumed charge on Friday as the Chief of Staff (CoS) in the Eastern Command of Indian Army at Fort William in Kolkata on Friday.

Lieutenant General Kalita who was born in Assam, happens to be the first Army officer from Assam to be appointed as  COS in Eastern Command which has jurisdiction over the entire Northeastern region.

Kalita, an alumnus of Sainik School, Goalpara in Assam and was awarded ‘Sena Medal’ and ‘Vishisht Seva Medal’ twice . He was born in Rangiya in Assam. He was commissioned in 9 Kumaon Regiment in June 1984.

He was also conferred with the prestigious ‘Ati Vishisht Seva Medal’ for his utmost dedication towards securing the country’s frontiers during his tenure as the general officer commanding (GOC) of XIX Infantry Division at Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir.
