GH cops nab highway robbers

TURA: A gang of highway robbers,who waylaid several vehicles and robbed their occupants of their valuables on a desolate section of national highway 62 in East Garo Hills, was busted on Wednesday.
East Garo Hills police picked up five persons from  Gabil Bisa village for questioning on Wednesday. It transpired during investigation that three of them were involved in the dacoity on the night of May 12. The village is less than five kms from the highway where the robberies took place.
“One of the arrested persons, Rakna B Momin, a teenager, has been remanded to a juvenile home, while the other two, Manchang G Momin and Meksin G Momin, have been arrested. The arrested men also revealed the names of the other two accomplices of their group who are on the run and our teams are tracking them,” informed East Garo Hills district SP, R T G Momin.
Three mobile phones which belonged to the victims were also recovered from their possession.
They reportedly told police that the money robbed was with the two absconding members of the gang.
One of the victims, a resident of Tura lost Rs 20,000. They also took away five cell phones belonging to him and his companions.
