SHILLONG: The Supreme Court will resume hearing on the PIL pertaining to the rescue operations in Ksan only in July after the summer vacation.
A lawyer dealing with the case said that the matter will come up for hearing only in the first week of July. The court was requested to hear the matter immediately given its urgency. The court, however, asked the lawyers to file their affidavits, but it will hear the matter in July.
The lawyers also confirmed that the state government has filed an application in the Supreme Court to close the matter.
It may be mentioned that tragedy struck the illegal coal mine at Ksan on December 13 last year trapping as many as 16 coal miners.
Even after the massive rescue operations involving multiple agencies, only two bodies could be retrieved.
Several of the coal miners, who are feared dead, hail from Rajabala in West Garo Hills .
Local MLA Azad Zaman informed that the families of the miners from his constituency have submitted their letters to call off the rescue operations.
He informed that they have received an interim relief of Rs 3 lakh each while they are seeking compensation of Rs 20-25 lakh for each of the miners.
