Sec 144 imposed in SWKH over dumping of assessed coal

Mawkyrwat: In order to protect and restore water bodies, drinking water sources and surrounding environment, the Deputy Commissioner of South West Khasi Hills District, Isawanda Laloo promulgated Section 144 CrPC prohibiting any open or uncovered dumping of assessed coal in all depots in the district on Wednesday.
“Whereas, the action plan for restoration of environment in areas affected by coal mines has been formulated by the NGT Committee to protect and restore the environment in the District and in order to protect and restore the water bodies, drinking water sources and surrounding environment, it is felt necessary to prohibit any open or uncovered dumping of assessed coal in all depots in the district,” Laloo said.
Therefore, Laloo prohibited individuals or any mine owners to leave open of any coal shafts or uncovered dumping of assessed coal in all depots in the district in order to prevent acid mine drainage, protect and restore the environment in the area. The order will come into force with immediate effect.
