GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday called on Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi at Raj Bhavan here on Friday and briefed him of the prevailing situation.

Though the meeting was one of a courtesy calls, the Chief Minister briefed the Governor about the prevailing situation in Assam especially in the aftermath of the grenade blast near the State Zoo in the city on Wednesday night.

The Chief Minister apprised the Governor of the current law and order situation prevailing in Brahmaputra and Barak Valley of the state. The meeting also took note of the Central and State government schemes and their assiduous implementation to ensure the transfer of benefits of the governance to the people at the lowest level.

The Governor also enquired about the State administration’s preparedness to tackle any natural calamity more particularly the perennial flood in the state and its plan to provide relief and rescue to the affected people.

Meanwhile, security sources informed that the grenade blast in Guwahati on Wednesday night was an attempt by the banned ULFA(Independent) to hog headlines  as the outfit has been frustrated of late because of continuous desertion by its disillusioned cadres.

Sources said the ULFA(I) commander-in-chief Paresh Barua had been trying to woo some former leaders of the outfit who are now with the pro-talks faction taking advantage of the sluggish pace in which the peace process has been progressing.
