NONGPOH: The Thadnongiaw Catholic Church of Mawbri Parish on Saturday celebrated 25 years of service of Sr. Hazel Rita Rithiang Rymmai to the Catholic Church under the congregation of St. Apostolic Carmel.

The celebration started with a Holy Mass administered by Fr Pius Shadap where the church believers took part with great enthusiasm. During the Holy Mass, Sr. Hazel renewed her oath that she will continue to serve the church all her life.

Delivering his sermon, Fr. Pius Shadap lauded Sr. Hazel for her contributions as a dedicated church worker saying she has been working for the betterment of the community and society.

“Twenty-five years of service to the church is not a matter of joke, there have been many hurdles and obstacles along the way,” Fr. Shadap said adding that it is because of her sincerity and dedication that she reached this important milestone.

It may be noted that Sr. Hazel was consecrated in 1994 and served in Kuwait for several years. She then moved to India to serve the church in Andaman and Nicobar Islands before returning to her own state of Meghalaya recently.

After the Holy Mass, she was felicitated following a tree plantation programme on the premises of the church.

The celebration concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony at her residence in Thadnongiaw village of Ri Bhoi district in which her relatives and church leaders took part.
