SHILLONG: With most exit polls predicting the comeback of NDA, National People’s Party (NPP) president Conrad Sangma expressed optimism that the numbers would go in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) direction.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a programme on Monday, Sangma said, “Exit polls are exit polls. But exit polls do give a direction in which the polls results could likely to come out and the average of the poll results also shows that the NDA is most likely to come back.”

It may be mentioned that NPP is an ally in the BJP-led NDA coalition government. However, the chief minister of Meghalaya was quick to add that besides the exit polls, people would have to wait for the final results of the polls on May 23.

According to him, under the NDA government, the country has seen development and the people’s mandate will determine that the activities under the NDA are satisfactory.

“These are all numbers we all have to wait for May 23 of this month to see the actual results,” he said.

On the other hand, asked about the NPP’s performance at the home ground here in the state, Sangma exuded confidence when the said the NDA will bag both the Tura and Shillong seats.

“The NDA would come victorious in both the seats,” he added.

The NPP had fielded Sangma’s sister, Agatha Sangma for the Tura seat and is supporting UDP general secretary, Jemino Mawthoh as the MDA’s consensus candidate.
