JOWAI: The Society for Urban and Rural Empowerment (SURE) in collaboration with the North-East Slow Food and Agro-Biodiversity (NESFAS) organised a one-day Farmers’ Market on the premises of HK Singh Memorial Secondary School here on Saturday.
The Programme Associate, Pasqualina Lamare, informed that the endeavour was not only about marketing organic vegetables but also to create awareness among the citizens that consuming organic produces will benefit their health compared to vegetables grown with the help of various types of fertilisers.
Lamare said it was not only an organic vegetable market but also to encourage farmers to grow more organic vegetables for higher income. It was also to create awareness for the citizens to be cautious about what they consume daily… whether it is non- chemical or with chemical. She added that Agrological Learning Circle (ALC), which is a part of the project, will help farmers to understand the scientific and traditional problems when the two are in conflict
Lamare said that the participating farmers were under the Participatory Guarantee Scheme and they came to participate in proudly.
