SHILLONG: Opposition leader and Congress candidate from Tura seat Mukul Sangma foresees a hung parliament when the results of the Lok Sabha elections are announced on Thursday.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on phone, Sangma said leaders from different political parties are looking at alternative options keeping in mind the likely outcome of a hung parliament.
He said this is probably the reason why different leaders are meeting and negotiating to know the mind of each other in the event of a hung parliament.
On exit polls, Sangma said a similar hype was created in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections as well as the recent Legislative Assembly elections in Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh but the results were different.
Stating that there can be many reasons behind the exit polls which may not be realistic, he added that all the political parties get their own inputs from ground zero about the elections.
Earlier, Sangma maintained that the party will respect and honour the mandate of the people which will be known on Thursday.
Expressing happiness that a large number of people have come out and exercised their franchise, he, however, lamented that the entire electioneering process was too long and could have been shorter.
