GUWAHATI: The situation at Kachurthal where a mosque was destroyed in a blast,  on Assam side of the inter-state border with Mizoram is by and large peaceful.

Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli who is constantly monitoring the law and order, said the situation was under control.

Suspected miscreants from Mizoram side triggered a blast that ripped apart a mosque on Friday. No one was around when the blast took place at around 2.15 am.

Deputy Commissioner Jalli and Superintendent of Police Mohneesh Mishra rushed to the site of the blast and took stock of the situation.

A meeting was held by the Hailakandi district heads with their Kolashib counterparts close to the border. Both the sides agreed to beef up patrolling and strength security along the border and to make combined efforts to nab the culprits behind the blast.

Emerging from the meeting, DC, Jalli and SP, Mishra pacified the agitated people with assurance that the administration would sent a report immediately to the government on the incident and the demand for a permanent camp of 21st IRBn at Kachurthal. Till then, deployment of security personnel and round the clock patrolling will continue.

Satisfied with the assurance, the local people withdrew the road blockade. Local MLA Suzam Uddin Laskar too visited the bomb blast site on Friday afternoon and interacted with the local people.

DSP, Hailakandi, Nayan Moni Barman visited Kachurthal on Saturday to take stock of the situation.
