SHILLONG: UDP MDC Paul Lyngdoh on Tuesday said the state can amend the Land Transfer Act to define the ‘tribal’ of a state.
In view of the growing demand to delete the names of some tribes from the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 as listed in Meghalaya, he said the state can do its part by proposing to amend the Act since the authority to amend the Order rests with the Centre.
He informed that the MDCs have articulated the matter to the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) as well.
