KHADC to organise cleanliness drive

SHILLONG: The Solid Waste Management Cell of the KHADC will conduct a cleaning drive on June 5, which is also observed as World Environment Day, at Iewduh.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, KHADC CEM Teiñwell Dkhar said the cell was constituted on April 24 which comprises of a chairman, 13 members and an advisor.
Dkhar added the Ïewduh will be closed during the cleaning drive which will start from 8:30 am and and day-to-day business will resume after the cleaning drive.
Environmental engineer of Meghalaya State Pollution Control Board Wanshan Kharkrang said draft action plan will be formulated which will then be submitted to the Executive Committee (EC) of the KHADC for its approval.
It may be mentioned that there is a directive of the Supreme Court on the implementation of solid waste management, for which the three autonomous district councils of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo Hills should ensure that the directive of the Apex court is followed.
