SHILLONG: The Bharat Sevashram Sangha (BSS), a worldwide philanthropic organisation branch in Jail Road area, has restarted providing financial assistance to underprivileged students from. Around fifty such students, from secondary, higher secondary and undergraduate level, are being provided the assistance to pursue their studies, being that the initiative is an ongoing process, informed BSS sources here.
There have been allegations that hundreds of students have not received any financial assistance under
this scheme for the last few years, despite money being withdrawn for the purpose, and many of their studies were hampered, resultantly. An inquiry into the matter is said to be currently underway to establish the anomalies and punish the guilty.
Yoga camp
A free yoga camp was also organised from May 28 that concluded on Saturday under the direction of BSS Headquarters, Kolkata, General Secretary Swami Bishwatmananda at the BSS premises here.
More than fifty aspirants received yoga tips from specially-trained in yoga under Swami Ramdev in Patanjali Yogpeeth, Haridwar, whilst senior monk Swami Uttamananda supervised the camp every morning and evening hours. Female participants were under the supervision of Pratima Devi, who was from Kolkata. Free yoga classes are also imparted every Saturday and Sunday at the Ashrama premises in Jail Road.
