SHILLONG: The FKJGP has alleged that the only government maternity hospital in the state, Ganesh Das Hospital, does not having necessary equipment to perform caesarean section.
In a statement issued here, the FKJGP stated that on Sunday a pregnant lady, Balari Lyngdoh, who is a resident of Mawlai Umjapung, was refused a Caesarean section as the hospital did not have the necessary tools to perform it.
The doctors called the 108 ambulance service, which, however, failed to arrive even after two hours, prompting the organisation to ferry her in its own ambulance.
The FKJGP said it would take up the matter with the health minister on Monday.
However, when contacted, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, N Wanswett, denied the allegation and asserted that there is no such shortage of tools for the operation.
She added that the operation was not carried out since there was no sterilised sheet left at that point of time. She said possibility of infection occurring is high if operations are done without using sterilised sheets.
