Awards for MA’AMA, Nabon
SHILLONG: It was double cheers for director Dominic Sangma on Sunday when his first feature film MA’AMA received two awards at the Prag Cine Award 2019 in Guwahati. The film received the awards for Best Director and Best Actor. Dominic’s father Philip Sangma played the lead role in the film, an octogenarian in search of his dead wife. MA’AMA, which is part of the director’s trilogy, has travelled to several festivals both in India and abroad. The director and his father went up to the dais amid cheers to accept the awards. Recently, Dominic’s second feature film project, Rapture, was selected for La Fabrique Cinéma, 2019. In an earlier interview with The Shillong Times, Dominic had said MA’AMA was “personal story”. Another film from Meghalaya was also the topic of discussion after it bagged one award. Lasubon Lyngkhoi, the lead actress of Khasi film Nabon, received the Best Actor (Female) award. The film is directed by KK Kharlukhi and traces the journey of Nabon Sawian, the first Khasi woman to embrace Christianity in the 19th century.
BSF organises Iftar party in city
SHILLONG: The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya Frontier organised an Iftar party in Umpling BSF Camp on Saturday. On the occasion, senior BSF officers and people from different faiths gathered at the Gym Hall in its headquarter. They also offered prayers before sitting down to savour a meal. Inspector General of BSF Meghalaya Frontier Kuldeep Saini also participated. He urged everyone to spread peace, love and harmony. He said “The function organised by the Border Security Force, Meghalaya Frontier, is a step towards uniting different communities.” He also conveyed his best wishes to all troops and their families for the forthcoming festival of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Jaintia bodies join hands
SHILLONG: The All Jaiñtia Muster Roll Workers and Labour Union (AJMRWLU), Jowai and the All Jaiñtia Mid Day Meal Workers Union, Jowai will join hands in the “One Citizen, One Tree” initiative of the government. In a statement issued here, the president of AJMRWLU, K L Pariat, said that the workers and mid day meal cooks and helpers will plant trees on their work premises. He urged other workers to make it a point to plant trees in order to ensure a clean and green environment.
