SHILLONG: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong has said that the residents of Harijan Colony need to be relocated citing the unhealthy condition of the place.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, he appealed to the residents to give their names to the Shillong Municipal Board as the government wants to streamline the matter.
“This is the last time that we have issued the direction. The government is sincere and we are going ahead,” he said adding though that the entire process would be carried out legally and successfully and once and for all.
Tynsong questioned the reluctance of the residents to give their names saying something is amiss.
Expressing concern over the growing population in the area, he said, “We want to verify our employees and see how many are genuine. We want to give them a better place to live in and protection to those who have served in the state. That is our intention.”
He added that the High Level Committee is committed to follow up on the matter and find a solution.
It may be mentioned that the Harijan Panchayat Committee has issued a seven-day deadline to the Shillong Municipal Board to withdraw the notices it has issued to all units in Harijan Colony failing which they would file a contempt plea in the court.
