KHNAM expresses concern over Bara Bazaar congestion
SHILLONG: The Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement Youth Wing has taken exception to the overcrowding of Ïewduh (Bara Bazaar). In a memorandum to the Executive Member (EM) in charge of Market, the KHNAM said the overcrowding and unhygienic conditions in Ïewduh pose health threat to the people visiting the traditional market place. KHNAM Youth Wing President Thomas Passah claimed almost 80 per cent of the shopkeepers keep their commodities outside their shops contributing to the space constraint, which is illegal. He urged the EM to monitor the situation and direct shopkeepers to keep their commodities within their shop boundaries.

BSF school felicitates students
SHILLONG: BSF Senior Secondary School on Tuesday felicitated and gave away awards to students who excelled in the Class 10 and 12 CBSE board exams. The toppers of Class 10 and 12, along with the highest scorers in different subjects, were felicitated by the chief guest and the special guest of the programme. Even teachers were felicitated during the programme. The school recorded 100 per cent pass percentage with the likes of Sayak Choudhury of Class 10 topping in the state scoring 99 per cent. Kuldeep Saini, IG, BSF Frontier Shillong, was the Chief Guest and DIG (PSO) Naimuddin the special guest. They congratulated the students as well as the teachers. Principal Abha Sharma welcomed the guests and congratulated the parents, students and teachers for the grand success.

Accident claims life
SHILLONG: One Deattail N Sangma died after the motorcycle (TR-02B-7737) on which he was pillion riding collided with a Maruti Alto car (AS-01AT-0529), on NH-62, at Darugre, East Garo Hills on May 31. Sangma sustained serious injuries and died on the way to PHC Ronjeng. The rider of the motorcycle, Summon Bonith, however, escaped without injuries. The car was being driven by one Augustine M Sangma. The body was handed over to the family after necessary formalities.
In another incident on Monday at about 12.45 am, a Tata Sumo (ML 05P 9907) driven by Hari Syiemlieh collided with a motorcycle (ML 10B 0390) ridden by Norman Kharshandi at Mawdiangum, Ri-Bhoi. As a result, the rider and his pillion rider sustained injuries.
