PIL against illegal teer counters

SHILLONG: A PIL has been filed in the High Court of Meghalaya seeking direction to the government to provide age limit or restriction for betting in the form of teer in the state.
The PIL claimed that there should be protection of children, students and innocent people from being exploited through betting conducted in illegal teer counters.
Further prayer was made that the distance in terms of the Act of 2018 be maintained by the owner of teer counters and the government should close down all teer counters which are functioning illegally in violation of the said Act of 2018, the Meghalaya Goods and Service Tax Act, 2017 and the Central Goods and Service Tax Act, 2017.
The High Court of Meghalaya has issued notice to the government.
Other respondents have prayed for some time to file their respective responses.
The matter has been adjourned to July 1.
