Kongthong incident
SHILLONG: The traditional heads of Raid Kongthong, Sohra have clarified that only a full-fledged Sordar can convene a Dorbar prior to the annual ritual of the Raid and can appoint anyone to conduct the ritual.
Addressing the press on Wednesday, secretary of the Raid Kongthong, Stogent Lynrah said the authority to conduct the traditional ritual of the Raid Kongthong rests with the Sordar, Sylloklang Majaw and not Kanol Majaw.
Lynrah criticised Kanol Majaw for claiming to be a Sordar and proceeded to initiate the annual ritual of the Raid.
It may be mentioned that Raid Kongthong was in the news following allegations that Sylloklang and his group prevented the annual ritual from taking place.
Earlier an FIR alleged that a group of people led by some church elders had vandalised and desecrated the sanctum, ‘Niang Pyrhai’, however, the church has clarified that it was not at all involved.
A police official also said that Sylloklang Majaw got the approval and Sanad to be the Sordar of Raid Kongthong whereas Kanol Majaw had not received it.
