GUWAHATI: Meghalaya kick-boxers put up a laudable performance, bagging eight medals, including five gold, at the Nepal Open International Kickboxing Championship which concluded in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
The gold medallists are Daniella I. Wanda Mylliemngap (Low kick Junior Girls, 52kg), Babit Kharsahnoh (Low kick Senior Men, 51kg), Pynshrainmiki Rabon (Low Kick Senior Men, 67kg), Heimonmi Suchiang (Full Contact Junior Boys, 54 kg) and Hame Shaniah Suiam (Point Fighting Senior Men, 57 kg).
Khrawjutang M Kharsyntiew won silver in the low kick senior men (57kg) category while Jezerel Sangma (Full Contact Senior Men, 51kg)
and Obinas Warjri (Full Contact Senior Men, 54kg) bagged bronze.
India bagged 62 medals with 38 gold, 15 silver and nine bronze medals in the event featuring competitors from 16 countries.
Meghalaya State Kickboxing Association working president, Lorenzo P. Warjri, expressed satisfaction, saying, “We expected medals from four athletes but all the eight kick-boxers bagged medals.”
