Tura Lok Sabha MP rubbishes allegation of inaction

SHILLONG: Tura MP Agatha Sangma has said there is no disappointment over not getting a berth in the BJP-led NDA cabinet.
There were expectations about Agatha’s possible induction in the Modi cabinet.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on Saturday on the sidelines of an NPP meeting in the city, Agatha said she was willing to take up any assignment and it does not mean that only a minister can serve the people. “As a parliamentarian, you can do a lot of service to the country, Agatha said.
According to Agatha, her priority for Garo Hills will be to improve the infrastructure facilities.
“I will also focus on education and health sector among others.”
To a question, Agatha rubbished the allegations that she did not do much for the overall development of Garo Hills and that she did not take up the cause of Garo Hills in Parliament.
“The allegations are not true, I was in the cabinet as a minister of state in the past and there are always limitations being a minister unlike any parliamentarian whether he or she is supporting the government or in the opposition”, Agatha said.
Agatha added that when she was the union minister of state for rural development, she tried to improve the living conditions of the people of Garo Hills.
Baljek Airport
The Tura MP also decided to follow up the pending Baljek Airport project.
“It will be my duty to ensure that the Baljek airport is made functional”, she said.
The Baljek airport is currently in an abandoned stage.
