SHILLONG: A conglomeration of NGOs in Garo Hills have urged Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma to hold either the Winter or Summer session of the Meghalaya Assembly in Tura on a permanent basis.
The demand came from the NGOs after the State Government held its first ever cabinet meeting in Tura recently.
They said that it has been a long standing demand for holding such sessions in Tura and dates back to 1980.
“This will also open up employment opportunities and enhance the profile of the town of Tura,” the NGOs added.
The NGOs that raised the demand were All India Garo Union (AIGU), Garo Student Union (GSU)– Interim Body, All A·chik Youth Welfare Society (AAYWS), All A·chik Youth Federation (AAYF) and the Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC).
The NGOs also asked the Government to expedite the construction of the Governor’s House in Danakgre area in town.
