NONGSTOIN: A local woman has come forward to manufacture state’s own sanitary pads.
The Syntu Sanitary Pads, which is first of its kind in the state, was formally launched on Friday at the co-operative society hall, Nondein in West Khasi Hills.
Shidalin Marbaniang, a resident of Nongkyna Mawshynrut Block, is the entrepreneur, who is manufacturing the sanitary pads using the incubation centre at the Livelihood Business Incubator (LBI), Nongstoin run by the Basin Development Unit, West Khasi Hills.
Shidalin has undergone training on sanitary pad making at the LBI, and is planning to set up her own production unit at her village.
As part of providing incubation services, the LBI is giving her the opportunity to have first-hand experience on running the enterprises before she ventures fully on her own. The pads will be priced at Rs 6 each.
Addressing the gathering during the launch, Additional Deputy Commissioner AVD Shira congratulated Marbaniang for her initiative to undergo training on sanitary pads organised by LBI sponsored by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise, where she could produce low cost sanitary pads.
She said the pads will be beneficial for women and young girls of the district as they can avail them at a very low price.
She also added sterilized sanitary pads will help the users to prevent diseases.
Shira also called upon youths to come forward and make use of various trainings offered by LBI and Basin Development Units so that they can be acquainted with knowledge and set up business to fight employment and be commercially sound for a better livelihood.
