MSOA to hold Shillong 10 km run on June 22

SHILLONG: As part of the worldwide Olympic Day celebration on June 23, Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) will organise the inter-college sports quiz competition on Tuesday and will also hold the second day edition of Shillong 10 km city run on Saturday. 

Addressing a press conference on Monday, working president of MSOA, John Kharshiing said the celebration will be held on June 22 since June 23 is a Sunday.

“It is a good sign to see that the colleges are taking interest,” he said.

As for the Shillong 10 km run, he said almost 200 participants from Police and Paramilitary personnel are taking part. The winner will get Rs 10,000, the first runner-up and second runner-up will bag RS 7000 and 5000 respectively. There will be 5 consolation prizes for Rs 1000. 

Chairman of the Shillong 10 km run, Ian Lyngdoh said the first edition of Shillong 10km run was a success with the youth.

The State Sports Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh will flag off the run at 7 am from State Central Library. For children under 16 years of age and for the elderly, a 3 km Run for Fun will also be organized on the same day. 

On the other hand, the MSOA is making an effort to have Shillong Run 10 km recognized by the Athletics Federation of India.
